Ravenrock Funding Group, a small-business funding broker in Sarasota, Florida, matches business credit line requests to lending partners that offer revolving limits. A line is a revolving limit: you draw funds when needed, pay interest on the balance you carry, and repaid amounts become available again. Partners set the limit, rate and terms after reviewing the business; Ravenrock does not lend.
| What it is | A revolving credit limit |
|---|---|
| Interest | Only on what has been drawn |
| Draw period | The window when you can borrow against the limit |
| Fits | Recurring, uneven cash gaps |
| Who decides | The lending partner |
Moving money out of the line and back
A partner approves a credit limit. Each time you move money from the line into your business account, that is a draw. Interest accrues on the money actually moved out of the line; the untouched part of the limit costs nothing in interest. As you repay, the available balance goes back up and can be drawn again.
That makes a line well suited to gaps that recur: a supplier who wants payment on delivery every month, or clients who pay on 30- or 60-day terms.
When the borrowing window closes
Many lines have a draw period, a set window during which you can borrow against the limit. When it ends, some lines renew after a review, while others move into a repayment period where no new draws are allowed and the remaining balance is paid down on a schedule. Ask the partner which applies, how long each phase lasts, and what triggers a review.
Revolving lines versus one-way lines
| Feature | Revolving line | Non-revolving line |
|---|---|---|
| Repaid amounts | Open up again for new draws | Do not become available again |
| Closes when | The agreement ends or is not renewed | Once the limit is spent or the window shuts |
| Fits | Gaps that repeat | A defined project spent in stages |
A non-revolving line behaves a little like a term loan that is funded in pieces: useful when a project is paid in stages, less useful for monthly swings.
How line of credit interest works
Interest is calculated on the outstanding balance, usually for each day it is outstanding. Some lines also charge a fee for each draw or for keeping the line open. Because the balance moves, the interest charge moves too. Ask for a worked example using your own expected draws, and compare the total with a fixed-schedule loan.
Secured lines are backed by business assets, often through a general lien; unsecured lines lean harder on cash flow and credit history. Which kind a business is offered is the partner's call.
Keeping a line healthy
A partner reads the line's history as closely as the application. A line that is drawn to the limit and never paid down looks like long-term debt in a short-term wrapper, and it can lead to a smaller limit or no renewal at review. A line that rises and falls with the business's cycle shows the partner what it was built for.
- Draw for timing gaps, not for permanent costs
- Pay down when receivables arrive
- Keep business income in the account the partner can see
- Ask what triggers a review, and when
Choosing between a revolving line and a term loan
If you know the amount and the project, a term loan gives a fixed payment and an end date. If you do not know when or how much you will need, a line lets you borrow only when the need appears. Some owners carry both: a term loan for the build-out and a line for the day-to-day. Working capital financing is a third route for a single, known gap.
Credit lines and Sarasota County, FL service firms
Professional, scientific and technical services led Sarasota County's employer count in 2023 with 2,199 establishments, and 78.7% of them had fewer than five employees (County Business Patterns 2023). Firms like these often bill monthly and wait for payment, which is the gap a line is built for. Our cash flow loan explainer covers how partners look at businesses with few hard assets, and the Sarasota, FL page has the wider county picture.
Not sure which pattern you have? The industry pages show how construction, restaurant and medical owners usually use a line, and the process page explains what happens next.
