Ravenrock Funding Group, a small-business funding broker in Sarasota, Florida, places inventory financing requests with lending partners that fund stock. It funds stock bought ahead of sales, with the inventory usually serving as collateral under a UCC filing. Partners value the goods, decide, and set the rate and terms. Ravenrock compares it with a credit line and working capital before anything goes out.

How inventory financing works
A partner funds the purchase of goods you plan to sell. The goods usually secure the financing, so the partner looks closely at what you stock, how quickly it turns, and what it would be worth if it had to be sold. Repayment may be a fixed schedule or paydowns as the goods sell, depending on the structure.
Partners commonly advance less than the full cost of the stock, because resale value is lower than retail price. How much less is the partner's call.
Liens recorded against the shelves
When inventory secures the deal, the partner usually records a UCC financing statement with the state. That public filing tells other creditors the partner has a claim on the inventory. Before you apply, it helps to know whether an earlier lender or an advance provider already filed against your inventory or against all business assets, because a prior filing can limit what a new partner will do.
Ask the partner exactly what the filing will cover: only the financed goods, all inventory, or all business assets.
Sarasota County, FL storefronts, distributors and their stock
Sarasota County had 1,755 retail employer establishments and 522 wholesale employers in 2023 (County Business Patterns 2023). Half of the retailers, 50.1%, had fewer than five employees. Another 3,459 retail businesses operated with no payroll in 2024 (Nonemployer Statistics 2024; a separate program and year, so the two counts are not added together).

Stock funding compared with a revolving line or a lump sum
| Question | Inventory financing | Line of credit | Working capital |
|---|---|---|---|
| Secured by | Usually the stock | Varies by partner | Varies by partner |
| Money arrives as | Funding for a specific purchase | Draws against a limit | A lump sum |
| Fits | Large, planned orders | Frequent, smaller restocks | General operating gaps |
If you restock in small amounts every few weeks, a business line of credit may be simpler than financing each order. For a one-time gap that is not tied to stock, compare it against general funding options.
Running the numbers first
Before you order, work out what the payment would be and whether the margin on the goods covers it. Our inventory loan payment calculator takes an amount, a rate and a term and returns the monthly payment, total interest and total repaid. Sell-through and margin are by-hand steps you add yourself.
Questions to settle before ordering
Inventory financing works when the goods sell on schedule. Before committing, ask yourself how long this stock usually takes to turn, what happens to the payment if it sells slower, and whether any of it could go stale or out of fashion. Ask the partner whether payments are fixed or tied to sales, whether the advance covers freight and duties, and what reporting it expects on stock levels during the term.
A partner that funds inventory may ask for periodic stock reports. Keep inventory records current; it makes those reports routine rather than a scramble.
